Away game today against newly formed Coventry Saracens riding high in the league. The early stages saw Athletic having to defend but restricting Saracens to long range attempts. As the half moved on Athletic came into the game and created some good chances.
Halftime 0-0
Three minutes into the second half Athletic took the lead following an angled ball from Shaun Gough splitting the Saracens defence for Ben Horner to run onto and fire home.
Saracens battled back and equalized following a low cross which went in at the near post. They went ahead when the Athletic defence were out jumped in the six yard box for a forward to head home.
The game was now developing into a competitive battle in midfield with both teams competing well. Saracens then went 3-1 up following a goal mouth scramble. Athletic fought back and reduced the deficit minutes from the end when Jay Nestor ran the ball into the net following Shaun Gough capitalizing on a fumble by the Saracens keeper.
Final score 3-2
A good performance against a very powerful side. Earlier in the season we would have rolled over but are now becoming difficult to beat and look as if we can score goals. MOM today Shaun Gough for his battling and overall contribution to the game.
